Most practices ask what you can already do. We are more interested in temperament, because technical skill can be taught and warmth is far harder to teach.
In Their Own Words
We could describe the culture ourselves, but it is far more useful to let the people who work here do it, and let you decide whether it sounds like somewhere you would belong.
What It Is Like Here
Every quote below is taken directly from the video above, in the words they were said. All attributed to: Altura team member.
Three Words
Nobody was given a list to choose from. One person felt three words were not enough, then offered that Altura means an obsession with getting the detail right.
THE WORDS
Professional · Positive · Elevated · Effort · Happy · Fun · Innovative · Refined · Loving · Friendly · Giggly · Elevation · People · Uniqueness · Autonomous · Progressive · Welcoming
We create an experience that stays with people, building genuine relationships and caring for patients over many years. In an interview here, we will ask you about a time you did something for someone that was not strictly your responsibility.
We give our team the knowledge, the confidence and the autonomy to take ownership of their work. Nobody here is managed task by task, and nobody waits to be told that something needs doing.
We never stop learning, and we invest properly in making that possible. If continuing education feels like an obligation rather than one of the better parts of the job, you will find us a demanding fit.
We notice what is needed and take the next step without being asked, for our patients and for each other. We stay attentive to what people need, including the things they have not found the words to ask for.
We support each other, and we help each other when help is needed. A calm room is never produced by one calm clinician. It is produced by a team who are at ease with each other, and patients sense that within moments of arriving.
What We Invest In You
A great many practices mention professional development and then approve one course a year. This is what the investment actually looks like here.
01. FUNDED EXTERNAL EDUCATION.
We send team members on courses at our cost, across the whole practice rather than only the dentists. Assistants, hygienists and front office team members are developed deliberately. It is the thing our team raises most often, unprompted, when asked what is different here.
02. STRUCTURED MENTORING.
Newer clinicians work alongside experienced ones with genuine case review rather than a nominal supervisor. If you are early in your career and want to grow into more complex work, you will have someone experienced looking at your cases with you.
03. TECHNOLOGY YOU WILL ACTUALLY USE.
Digital scanning across the practice, 3D imaging with lateral cephalogram, in-house printing and milling, digital radiography, contemporary endodontics and Digital Smile Design. You will not spend your career working around the absence of equipment.
04. COMPLEX TREATMENT, IN HOUSE.
Implants, full-arch rehabilitation and advanced cosmetic dentistry are cared for here rather than referred away. For an ambitious clinician that means exposure to treatment most general practices never see, with support alongside it.
05. A TEAM THAT TEACHES.
Members of our team lecture and lead hands-on training for other dentists. Being among people who teach their techniques to peers lifts the standard of the conversations you have every day, and there are pathways into teaching for those who want them.
06. A CULTURE THAT IS LOOKED AFTER.
Team building, social events and a deliberate effort to keep this a practice people enjoy being part of. This is not a perk on the side. A settled, warm team is precisely how the patient experience is delivered, so protecting it is a considered decision.
Honest Expectations
You will likely enjoy it here if warmth comes naturally to you, you notice what needs doing before anyone asks, you would rather be shown a better way than left comfortable, and the idea of being sent on courses appeals rather than daunts.
You will also fit if you care about patients who feel anxious. A meaningful share of the people who come to us are nervous, or have avoided dentistry for years, and how they are treated is the entire point of the practice.
You may find us a demanding fit if you are looking for a role where you arrive, work through the list and leave. Not because of the hours, but because of the ownership expected of everyone here.
It is also the wrong fit if you are clinically excellent but difficult to work alongside. We have chosen team culture over individual brilliance before, and we would make the same choice again. Teamwork is the value we protect most carefully.
If none of that has discouraged you, we would genuinely like to hear from you.
Roles
We keep applications open across these roles even when nothing is formally advertised, because the right person is always worth making room for. Current vacancies are noted below.
Dentist
General and advanced restorative care. Mentoring available for clinicians building towards implant and complex rehabilitative work, and genuine autonomy for those who already have it.
Oral Health Therapist or Hygienist
Preventive care, periodontal therapy, and a real role in the long-term care of complex cases rather than an isolated list.
Dental Assistant
Chairside across general, cosmetic, implant and surgical treatment. Training provided and funded. Experience is welcome; temperament matters more.
Treatment Coordinator
Guiding patients through significant decisions with clarity and without pressure. Suits someone warm, organised and comfortable discussing cost openly.
Front Office and Patient Concierge
The first voice and the first face, and arguably the role with the greatest influence on whether an anxious patient ever returns.
Expression of Interest
If none of the above quite fits but this sounds like how you already work, please write to us anyway.
Including the ones that are difficult to raise. If one of these is what has been holding you back, that is precisely why it is here.
No. We take on clinicians at different stages and mentor them towards more advanced work. What we do look for is genuine appetite, because mentoring only rewards someone who wants to be stretched. If you already have advanced experience, you will find the equipment, the case mix and the autonomy here suit you well.
It is real, and the most reliable evidence is that our team raises it unprompted when asked what makes this place different. Funded courses apply across the practice, not only to dentists. In your interview, ask specifically what the last three team members were sent on. We would far rather answer that than have you take our word for it.
Usually an informal conversation first, so both of us can sense whether the values fit before anyone invests serious time. From there, a more structured interview and, for most roles, a paid working day in the practice. That day matters in both directions: you meet the team you would actually work with, on an ordinary day rather than a staged one.
Yes, for the right person. A new graduate who is curious, coachable and warm with patients is a better fit for us than an experienced clinician who is settled in their habits and difficult to work alongside. If you have recently graduated, apply and be candid about what you do not yet know. Nobody expects otherwise, and pretending is a far greater concern than inexperience.
Often, depending on the role and what the practice needs at the time. Tell us what you are looking for in your application rather than assuming the answer is no. We would much rather find a way to work with someone excellent than lose them over scheduling.
Shop 2, 111 Queen Street, Cleveland, in the Redlands on Brisbane’s bayside. It is a gentler daily commute than most inner-city practices, and many of our team live locally. If you are travelling from further afield, raise it early and we will be straight with you about whether the roster makes it workable.
Yes. We keep expressions of interest open permanently, and several of our current team joined us that way. Practices grow unevenly, and the right person often arrives before the vacancy does. If this page describes how you already work, tell us, and we will keep you properly in mind.
